I A word from the artist I
I was born in Algeria. I spent part of my childhood in Greater Kabylia and then near Algiers, in Fort-de-I'Eau. After studying literature in Paris, I spent a few years publishing books for young people in Algeria.

These years in publishing enabled me to discover the oral and pictorial folklore of the regions of my country. So my inspiration drew on the styles and sensibilities of my origins. However, it is the theme of women that remains recurrent in my paintings. Beyond their beauty and sensuality, women appear as the guardians of traditions, the reflection of the arts and knowledge. She is also a woman committed to modernity, aware of her singularity and the individualism that progress is leading her to. Rarely alone, she seems to assert the bond that unites her with her fellow human beings. The graphics are richly coloured, full of poetic or musical evocations, sometimes reflected in the women's costumes. It's a painting without ambiguity: women, birds and flowers offered as an invitation to the simplest happiness.

I Presentation I
Fazia Kerrad is an Algerian artist born in Greater Kabylia, where she spent part of her childhood before moving to Fort-de-l'Eau, also the home of the painter Baya. Passionate about the world of books, she studied Comparative Literature at the University of Paris and later devoted herself to publishing books for young people in Algeria. Like her literary works, her paintings are inspired by her origins. They combine the themes of nature and the representation of women. The beauty and place of women are revealed in the art of Fazia Kerrad. The painter depicts her women in long silhouettes with powerful, expressive eyes. All are magnified by a coloured headdress and accompanied by floral and bird decorations that convey the gentleness of Nature. It's a perfect representation of female creativity in the Arab world, with a strong symbolism that is both poetic and musical. ‘Beyond her beauty and sensuality, the woman appears as the guardian of traditions, the reflection of the arts and knowledge. She is also a woman committed to modernity, aware of her own uniqueness and the individualism that progress brings.‘
